Lonnie,
If you picked up any box lunches from the flight galley then you probably got
them from me.  I also worked in the galley so I know you ate my chow.  I do
have some pictures of people I worked with, but I forgot there full names.
The pictures are in storage.  I just moved to Florida from Ohio.  Where are
you located?
After Nam I was transferred to the Lexington out of Pensacola.  I got out of
the Navy in 71 and then enlisted in the Coast Guard.  I retired from the CG
in 87.
It would be nice to see or hear from some old friends.  Like you I did some
postings on the internet with know results.   A few years ago there was a
reunion in DC for NAFCRB, but I wasn't able to attend.

I went through some of my closed plastic boxes and found my Cam Rahn Bay
book.  It's almost like a cruise book.  It tells of the forming of the base
in 1968.  It has about a hundred pages of pictures.  It is by department.
What department were you in?  Maybe I can scan whatever is there for that
department and you might know some of the personnel.

Yes I to was stationed there in 69 - 70 and I try to remember the
positive and forget the tough times and sad....
You would have found me in the supply dept. when I first got to
viet nam because we didn't have pay records on our base...But when
we had a change of command the new CO made sure our pay records
were on the base...I then opened a Disbursing office along with a
first class DK to give NAF its first pay station......
In the weeks ahead I will write up a story on my tour and share it
with you.
All my best to you

I served at NAF Cam Rahn Bay from May 5, 1967 thru May 4, 1968.  Give me a
shout when you can, and arrange a chat.
Or call me in Cleveland, Ohio at 1800-597-2711 and leave a message.  The only
"Freddie's" I remember were Fred Williamson and Fred Hill.  Could you be one
of them?
My name is Joel Stieglitz.  I was a YN2 and served under Cmdr. J. K. Stanley
as the CO's Yeoman.

This is RJ Hoff, formerly of Grand Island, Lonnie Lee. Now it is RJ Hoff of Ogallala
which is 185 miles west of Grand Island. The land of the big draught and some
great trout fishing. Or it was until the draught hit!
I sent you another email explaining all this stuff and how I had sent you an email
and didn't even realize it was you until I got home and was going through the
stuff I copied and found another posting by freddy1 and there was your name by
it. What a coincidence that was.
How in the heck are you?
I'm ok, the family's ok, the son is in the USAF so I'm not sure about him, the dogs
Sam and Doc are fine and my jeep is running good. The bills are paid, some food
in the fridge and they tell us it may rain next Monday. Hey, things couldn't be
better.
I don't have email at home as I don't own a computer, but I have it here at work.
Since I'm the boss, I can send something whenever I want. Saves me money on
buying my own computer and that is money that can be well spent on another fly
rod or gas (gasp) for the vehicles.

Drop me a line here and let me know how you are.

Hi Fred and thanx for notifying me about the web site.  I sent the email
below to Nevin Frankel regarding some of the initial crew of NAF/CRB.  I
will also advise him of your new website.  Please post the memo below.  It may
help to jar some of the memories of those who view the site.
Can I take digital photos of the pictures I have and send them to you as
"files"?  Can you post them from that venue?  Let me know and I will give it a try.Joel Stiegli  Subj: Re: NAF Cam Rahn Bay

lonnie,

Hello again.  Went to your web  site and love it.  first i should tell
you that my name is Bill Griffin, ABH-2 Retired USN.. Retired 100% service
connected (for a heart condition)Iam currently living in Santa Barbara,
Calif.    I only did 8 years before the heart conditon.   I joined the navy
in 1965 was sent to Beeville,Texas as an AA and joined the Crash Crew there
for the next two years.  Left there and went to Sangley Pt. PI.  and drove
Crash Trucks there for 1 1/2 Yrs. and ABHAN there. Left there in Jan. 1969
went to San Diego SEAR school, Than to Cam Rahn Bay in 28 Feb 1969 to 20
Oct. 1970  advanced to ABH-3 while in SEAR training in San Diego.  While at
Cam Rahn Bay , I drove the station Fire truck for the first 9 months there.
Than they turned it over to the Vietnamese.  I than went  to the line
fueling the P-3s I hated it had to drive at night.   Made ABH-2 and no more
driving fuel trucks.. went to workfor the special programs and worked at the
Vietnamese Naval Training Center   ,  CDR Stewart, was my boss at the time.
The base clubs were in full swing.  The theatre was alway full and while i
was there I seen  M A S H, first run, watched it twice that night.  The only
movie ever to play twice in the same night.  OH well , I have an alblum of
pictures. Really some good shot of the base, these pictures were taken over
a span of time some much earlier than my arrival, but most of them were
taken in 69 - 70 . Lonnie if you like  write me and give me your address so
i can send you these pictures.  Or I'll try and get them on my scanner, they
seem to blow up really big.  Iam new at this thats why  I haven't done it.
The picture alblum has about 50 pages.  Really good.  Maybe we can get them
all in here as Bills scrap book, I also have a few snap shot of me and my
fire truck.  Well good luck to all.  Anyone would like to write please do
so.  Bill Griffin,  ABH-2 retired
